2009-10 Clerkship Season
71 comments:
Gorsuch has hired a Vandy '08 grad for the 09-10 term.
Gorsuch has also hired a Duke '08 grad for 09-10 term.
Has Judge Kelly interviewed or hired for 2009-2010?
Kelly usually doesn't start interviewing until late July. That way he will have second semester gardes for 2Ls and graduating 3Ls.
McConnell hired at least one for 09-10.
Any idea when McConnell made this 09-10 hire? Recently or last fall?
I can confirm the Duke '08 grad for 09-10 Gorsuch. She is with Justice Eid (in CO) in 08-09.
Any word on Baldock?
Is O'brien hiring this year?
I called his chambers and he is accepting applications from graduates
Has the 2008 Baldock spot been filled? Anyone heard about interviews?
I received an e-mail from a clerk of Judge Ebel and had a long half hour screening "interview" with him. (Very nice guy btw.) He was not certain when Judge Ebel would be making hiring decisions and I assume if the phone interview went well I would still have an in person to go to before I knew anything. I am a recent grad btw.
I am a graduate currently doing a district court clerkship.
I received an e-mail from Judge Ebel today stating that he would contact me soon. There was no mention of a screening interview.
Hartz has interviewed at least one non-graduate for 09-10.
Baldock is still interviewing for 2009-2011. I don't know whether he is still accepting applications.
Do you know if Baldock is still interviewing for the 2008 position?
Judge Murphy has now completed his hiring for the 09-10 term. He hired an 07 grad from St. Louis and an 08 grad from Utah.
I heard Ebel is moving on grads; anyone know when he is interviewing/planning to make offers?
By moving, do you mean calling or interviewing grads?
heard Ebel has interviewed some grads in person following half-hour phone screening interviews, but no word on offers yet
Anyone hear from Ebel today?
I heard Ebel is looking at applications and interviewing both grads and rising 3Ls with two years of grades in hand.
Holmes is interviewing
Does Henry follow the plan? I've heard conflicting information.
Gorsuch has hired two for the current term and one for the 10-11 term.
kelly is interviewing
The rumor here in Denver is that Gorsuch is done. Can anyone confirm?
Pretty sure that's not true - he's still calling for interviews.
8:24,
What do we know about the 10-11 Gorsuch clerk?
Gorsuch's 10-11 is clerking for a district judge in 09-10 according to someone in his chambers. I don't know his/her school or year.
Gorsuch seems to have no problem with the hiring ahead approach. The Duke 09-10 clerk was hired a year ahead and the 10-11 clerk was hired a year ahead.
His chambers did not indicate they were done hiring. Last I heard, there were two vacancies.
I received a nice letter about two weeks ago from Gorsuch stating that my application would be considered when he reviews graduate applications.
Does anyone know if he sends this to all applicants?
I got the same letter from Gorsuch.
My understanding is that the 10th Cir. generally hires off plan.
Your understanding is generally correct, though not entirely. If I remember correctly from last year McConnell and a few others waiting until the plan deadline to make their final hires.
Kelly hired
Do you know where Kelly hired from or if he is still considering graduate applications?
Has anyone heard anything from Baldock about the 2008 spot? Is it filled? Has he interviewed already?
I applied to Gorsuch today and received an email via OSCAR saying that he would contact me should an interview be appropriate. Does anyone know whether this is an automated response?
I applied to Gorsuch as well, but via mail. I received a similar message. It seemed to be a "I got your application" response with a "and I'll contact you later if I want an interview" tagged on.
I presume it is the standard response to receiving an application.
I applied by mail and got the same letter from Gorsuch. I received similar e-mails from Kelly and Ebel as well. I assume they are just generic application receipt notices.
There seems to be kind of a lull right now. Does anyone know if the judges are still revewing grad applications or are they waiting to see 3L applications at this point?
I know Holmes had an interview with a 3L. But I haven't heard of any other interviews recently. Anyone else?
Gorsuch has hired a (reputedly very sharp -- and handsome) clerk from Harvard.
I heard Gorsuch's harvard guy is a baller
Apparently Judge Ebel hired a 3L from WUSTL.
Do you know if Ebel has contacted all the grads he plans to interview or is he still reviewing applications?
Lucero apparently called alums today
Gorsuch actually hired two from hls. He should be done.
Gorsuch changed his OSCAR status today (you have to search for "Post/Last Modified Date for Closed Positions"
"Not Hiring 2009 - 2010 I have filled my clerkship positions for the 09-10 Term."
I like how Gorsuch sends an autoemail saying he'll make hiring decisions in September, then fills his position two days later. Nice.
Does anyone know if Kelly is still reviewing grad applications? Has O'Brien begun reviewing yet?
I heard that Gorsuch has an exceptional legal mind -- really first rate!
Kelly hired a 3L from William and Mary
So, does that mean Kelly has hired 2 of 3 clerks? Thanks.
Tymkovich has hired a Michigan 3L.
Not sure about Kelly's status other than the W&M hire.
So, does the Kelly hire referenced in the July 10 posting refer to the same W&M 3L referenced in the July 22 post?
I only posted the one yesterday. I assume the person on the 10th was talking about the same hire.
Judge Kelly hired a 3L from Fordham today (me!). He is leaving town tomorrow, so expect to hear from him soon.
Any idea if Kelly is still calling grads to set up interviews? Did he hire you on the spot?
No offer on the spot. I don't think he ever does that...but I could be wrong. He emailed me this morning to ask me to call him.
As for interviewing, his clerks said that they had already interviewed ~5 people (not just grads) when I was there two weeks ago. When I interviewed, he said he would be making a decision in 2-3 weeks.
Darn. I'm probably out then. Congratulations. I've heard very good things about Kelly.
Kelly hired an Notre Dame 3L today
Hartz is still interviewing, I have heard rumors that Murphy is done.
Per my schools internal website, Murphy is definitely done.
Any word on Tacha or Briscoe?
2:13-- Briscoe usually doesn't hire until after (well after!) the timetable date for 2Ls. If past practice is indicative of what she'll do this year, she will probably wait until October or November to interview or hire.
Has anyone heard anything recent from Judge Holmes' chambers? Any interviews? Any offers?
Got an email from Kelly that he's done hiring.
Anybody know anything about O'Brien?
Anyone know anything about Judge Henry? Does he follow the plan? Has he contacted anyone yet?
Judge Henry has hired at least one person. A 3L from Duke.
A friend of mine from Michigan Law had an interview with Judge Henry but had to turn it down because he accepted a clerkship with a different judge.
